Jann Levinson met her first muse as an elementary student using a silent wooden keyboard. She studied piano, voice and composition in New York City with various private teachers, and then attended and graduated from Bard College, where she was privileged to work with award-winning composer Joan Tower and The Da Capo Chamber Players. Ms. Levinson's early work is recorded on the Composers' Recordings, Inc. label.

In the early 1990's Jann left the East Coast for Wyoming where she discovered nature, a new muse, and created neoclassical works for piano and orchestral instruments, inspired by the Grand Teton mountain range and other "places". She likes to call herself a "place composer" as her passion is writing in sound what she visually sees and emotionally or spiritually feels. Recently she was brought to a new muse, the Point Reyes National Seashore, a never-ending prism of inspirations, she states. Her current work includes studies of water, in its various forms, and a series of books and accompanying music entitled In The Flow. Jann has written sound images, pictures painted in sound, for Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, the Campanile bell tower in Venice, Italy, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, and many other beautiful sights/sounds.

Jann's recordings, Teton Seasons (1997) and Sunrise (2000), are invitations to experience nature and to connect with the Earth through these images painted with sound. Jewels of Light (2004), invites the listener to bathe in these lush sound pictures to relax the energy (chakra) systems of the physical body. And The Muse (2006) is Jann's first vocal offering of original songs where she shares her vision for peace in our time.

Jann once again offers her listeners a portal to inner peace through the Teton Seasons DVD (2006), with photographs by Kurt Johnson, in which she shares the peace of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the Grand Teton mountains. And as Executive Director of the Peace Chorus (www.peacechorus.org), a not-for-profit organization formed to create peace in our time through connection and song, she reaches out to others across our country sharing her love of sound and gently guiding others to their own inner peace.

The Jackson Hole Symphony, with conductor Eric Wenstrom, performed Jann's "Grand Teton Suite" for full orchestra and piano with Ms. Levinson on piano. Her chamber piece, "The Winds", was commissioned by The Wyoming Music Teachers' Association and premiered at their convention. Jann's "Snowbow", from the Sunrise CD was awarded a Second Place Award in the Best Solo Instrumental Song Category by Just Plain Folks, the internet's largest musical community. She has also composed and performed two duets: one for oboe and piano with Roger Watson, "Aurora", and another with Gregory Murray for piano and cello, "Sapphire Blue".

Ms. Levinson's CDs are being used by traditional and alternative healthcare practitioners worldwide, to relieve stress and promote physical and emotional healing for their patients. Spiritual retreat centers, yoga studios and spas have also discovered the soothing qualities of Jann's music. Many of this country's national parks feature her CDs in their gift stores.

Ms. Levinson composes music daily and teaches piano, voice and composition to all ages. She has created specialized music programs for the Teton County School District, C Bar V Ranches, the Wyoming Music Teachers' Association, the Teton County Library, the Jackson Hole Theater Company, St. John's Hospital Living Center, the Journeys' School and the Pumpkin Patch Preschool. She is listed on both the Wyoming Arts Council's Arts Across Wyoming and Arts in Education Rosters and is available for workshops or concerts. Jann recently published her works for solo piano, on the Joyous Laughter Music label, and they are available through her website and through various national retailers.
